To ensure autorun and distribution:
Modifies the following registry keys:
- [<HKLM>\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run] 'userinit' = '%WINDIR%\userinit.exe'
- [<HKLM>\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon] 'Userinit' = '%WINDIR%\\system32\userinit.exe,'
Creates the following files on removable media:
- <Drive name for removable media>:\RECYCLER\My Picture.exe
- <Drive name for removable media>:\AutoRun.inf
- <Drive name for removable media>:\RECYCLER\S-7-2-17-5076020500-8031277510-166737165-1234\honey.exe
Malicious functions:
To complicate detection of its presence in the operating system,
forces the system hide from view:
- hidden files
- file extensions
Creates and executes the following:
- '%WINDIR%\userinit.exe'
Forces autoplay for removable media.
Modifies file system :
Creates the following files:
- %WINDIR%\kdcoms.dll
- <DRIVERS>\etc\hosts
- %WINDIR%\userinit.exe
Sets the 'hidden' attribute to the following files:
- <Drive name for removable media>:\AutoRun.inf
- <Drive name for removable media>:\RECYCLER\S-7-2-17-5076020500-8031277510-166737165-1234\honey.exe
- %WINDIR%\userinit.exe
Deletes the following files:
- <DRIVERS>\etc\hosts
- %TEMP%\~DF338E.tmp
Substitutes the HOSTS file.
